The Nguyen’s arrived in Houston in 1974 with four small children, Ann, the oldest; Dean, a HPD police officer and a 5th Degree Black Belt; Chau, a television news journalist and anchor for Channel 11 News in Houston; and Master Wayne Nguyen, AKA “The White Ninja”.
Master W. Nguyen always new he wanted to be a martial artist. His instructor, April Cunningham, whom he highly admires and respects, molded Master W. Nguyen and gave him the tools and knowledge that he needed to accomplish his goals. Even as a child Master W. Nguyen had a strong desire to learn martial arts and an even stronger desire to be the best at whatever he did. That combination has been his driving force ever since. It has taken him to martial arts championships at state, national and world levels.
Of all the honors he has earned, the memory that stands out the most, was when he was chosen to be in the Chuck Norris movie " SideKicks." Master W. Nguyen has worked as a stunt double and as an extra in movies. You might recognize him as the bully, or in his famous scene as the "white ninja" performing the nunchukus form in “Sidekicks.” Although he enjoyed that type of work, his heart was here with his karate school and his students. Being a World Champion himself, Master W. Nguyen trained and produced hundreds of Black Belts and many became state, nationals and world champions like…Angel Huerta, Adam Longoria, David Johnson, Dawn Kabela, Chris Gallio, and Joseph Pruiett to name just a few.
Master W. Nguyen has been recognized as one of the leading martial artists in the world of sport karate as a competitor and promoter. His “TKO State Championship” and the “Ocean Nationals Championship” is recognized as one of the biggest tournaments in Texas. He is constantly sought after for personal appearances, demonstrations, and seminars. Master W. Nguyen produced a 2-volume set of instructional videos, “Wayne Nguyen’s Winning Nunchuku” of which thousands of copies have been sold all over the United States and in several foreign countries.
Currently, Master W. Nguyen holds 3 occupations, teaching martial arts during the day for Chuck Norris "KickStart" www.kick-start.org, managing his family restaurant "Pho Miss Saigon", and operating a TKO studio in Houston. With over 20 years of martial arts teaching, Master W. Nguyen has developed a unique and practical martial arts program for toddlers, children and adults.
Founding Texas Karate Organization (TKO) in 1994. Master W. Nguyen keeps in mind the unity of TKO students and its schools. Rooted in a combination of martial-art styles, TKO program offers a well-balanced and complete system of unarmed self-defense and fitness. The classes are based on Korean Chung Do Kwan-Tae Kwon Do, Japanese Karate, Judo, Jui-jitsu, Aikido and Kickboxing. TKO emphasizes mental and physical conditioning which allow students to learn better focus, build high character, set and achieve personal goals, and develop overall leadership. The skills learned at TKO Self Defense program enable individuals to maximize achievements in all aspects of life.
